Court of Justice Fines Ireland for Environmental Violations

The Court of Justice of the European Union has imposed fines in excess of €3m against Ireland for its failure to comply with two of its previous judgments in relation to environmental law violations.

New EU VAT Rules to Commence 1 January 2013

The rules were introduced by the Directive on VAT Invoicing (2010/45/EU) with the objective of simplifying VAT invoicing for businesses by removing some of the barriers and burdens in the existing system.

Directive on Taxation Information Sharing

The Directive on Administrative Cooperation 2011/16/EU will come into effect from 1 January 2013. Its aim is to strengthen Member State powers to assess and collect taxes by facilitating better information exchange between tax authorities in different Member States.
